The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Headquarters, AIG Olohundare Jimoh Moshood, has called for enhanced inter-agency collaboration to address growing security challenges, particularly in Nigeria’s coastal and littoral areas.

Moshood made the call on Friday during a courtesy visit to the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral AA Mustapha, at the Command’s headquarters in Apapa, Lagos.

He noted that the changing dynamics of security threats demand sustained cooperation among security agencies, stressing that intelligence sharing, joint operations, and mutual support are critical to safeguarding lives and property.

The police chief also highlighted the need for closer coordination in tackling crimes such as cultism, illegal drug trafficking, land grabbing, and other organised criminal activities, while commending the Western Naval Command for maintaining stability within its area of responsibility.

In his response, Rear Admiral Mustapha described the visit as timely and strategic, congratulating Moshood on his appointment and attributing it to his dedication, professionalism, and experience.

He welcomed the AIG on behalf of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, and emphasised that no single agency can effectively tackle modern security threats in isolation.

The naval commander further noted that Nigeria’s removal from the list of piracy-prone nations reflects the sustained efforts of the Nigerian Navy and other maritime stakeholders in securing the country’s waters.

Mustapha assured the AIG of the Command’s readiness to strengthen collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force through intelligence sharing, joint patrols, and coordinated operations, particularly within Lagos and Ogun states.

He reiterated the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to ensuring a secure maritime environment that supports national economic growth, adding that partnership with other security agencies remains vital to achieving this goal.

The visit also featured discussions on areas of mutual interest and the exchange of souvenirs, underscoring the commitment of both organisations to deepening cooperation.

It is expected to further strengthen the existing relationship between the Nigerian Navy and the Nigeria Police Force in promoting peace, security, and stability across the region.
