Nigeria’s forward, Victor Osimhen, appears to have sustained a hamstring injury during a Turkish Super Lig match between Galatasaray and Rizespor.
This injury could jeopardize his participation in the World Cup qualifying fixtures against Rwanda and South Africa this month in Uyo and Bloemfontein respectively.
While tests have yet to be conducted or confirmed, this incident adds to the challenges facing the Super Eagles, who are already missing several players.
On Saturday at Rams Park, Osimhen had maintained his impressive start in Turkey by scoring in back-to-back games.
A Turkish outlet, Sporx, reported on X, “Victor Osimhen is injured, and Mauro Icardi has begun warming up.” A photo of Osimhen, appearing to be in slight pain and holding his thigh, was also shared.
Following the game, Osimhen expressed his thoughts on Galatasaray’s UEFA Champions League draw, stating, “We need to work hard and fight. I believe we will be successful in the Champions League. I can say it’s a tough draw. We want to reach the finals in every competition, and we will do everything to achieve these goals.”
