The Federal Character Commission (FCC) has said that with the ongoing training of desk officers in Ministries, Agencies and Departments (MDAs), the issue of alleged marginalisation would disappear like the dreaded Ebola virus.
Consultant to the FCC on the training of desk officers on the handling of nominal rolls, Hon. Ejike Njeze, gave the assurance, in Abuja, even as he said the commission was training over 1000 civil servants in the first phase.
The training which kick-started on October 16th, 2017, had been extended to November in order to accommodate agencies who did not key in into the training in time as a result of late arrival of invitation letters.
The technology expert and Chairman, PGL Group, said the development was borne out of the culture of transparency that President Muhammadu Buhari has brought to bare in the governance of the nation.
Said he, “This is simply visible to the blind and audible to the deaf. Even a blind man and even the deaf can simply understand that this is transparency, honesty, accountability and inclusion. By automating the process, what you are simply saying is that you don’t want to bring in bias.
“Machine does not understand tribe, does not understand religion, and does not understand ethnicity. The bottom line is that the introduction of online submission of nominal rolls would bring about transparency so that Nigerians would see how their resources are distributed.
“With this development, all agitations about marginilization would disappear like Ebola,” Njeze said.
Speaking earlier, Njeze said the training was embarked upon in order to enhance standard practise, saying that the role of public-private-partnership cannot be overlooked for any organization that wanted to succeed.
“The chairman of the FCC decided to engage the private sector in the area of improving their processes which include the uploading and submission of nominal rolls by MDAs to the commission.
“What prompted the training ab initio is the improvement that the FCC has made in their own process to make the processes of engaging with the MDAs more efficient and time effective.
“So, it is because of that enormous improvement that they have made within the space of one year that necessitated a training, capacity building for desk officers in MDAs so that they will be in tune with the innovation, especially in the area of the new portal that was recently launched by the FCC to make the processing of nominal rolls submission more efficient, easier, faster, and even more accurate,” Njeze stated.
