AFUSTA ASUU seeks Kebbi Gov intervention on agreements implementation

The Academy Staff Union of the University (ASUU) Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero (AFUSTA) Chapter has appealed to the Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris to intervene implement in all the items in the agreement reached with the management of the institution.

Chairperson of the Union,
Dr. Musa Isah Fakai, and Dr. Gado Abubakar A.,the Secretary,made this known in a statement made available to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi.

They explained that , despite several attempts to made their grievances known to the Public through many channels,their problems remained unresolved and efforts to reach the Governor were not successful.

According to them, issues such as implementation of remuneration package of academic Staff in Nigerian Universities, payment of earn academic allowances(EAA) from 2014-to date for academic Staff of the University,
Backlogs of Unpaid Promotion Arrears, Non- implementation of annual salary increments, and N 35, 000 Wage Award (October, 2023-March, 2024) 6 Months Arrears Not Paid.

The Union also disclosed that, 35% and 25% Salary increment September 2023 (Sept. 2023- Dec. 2024) 16 Months Arrears not Paid, new Salary Scale for 2024 minimum wage implemented in AFUSTA January, 2025 (3 Months
Arrears Not Paid), accrued backlog of 62 Months Arrears (April, 2019-June, 2024) of 2019 Salary
Consequential adjustment Not Paid and Non-Completion of 2024 Promotion Exercise.

“It is important for the public to note that the assessment of those to be promoted to the
rank of Readers and Professors effective from 1st October, 2024 is yet to be sent for
external assessment.

“In conclusion, sequel to the above unresolved lingering welfare issues that the Branch Congress resolved to notify the public and other stakeholders to know and seek redress on all the lingering welfare issues bearing in mind that, in the event of the pleas not yielding positive results, all avenues available for the actualization of these demands including the request for industrial action from the ASUU National body at the upcoming National Executive Council meeting scheduled for 9th-10th May, 2026 be activated’, they said.
