Afriwood Studios is expanding its international presence with a U.S. Liaison Office in Newark, New Jersey, while retaining its headquarters in Owerri, Imo State.
The office will help connect the company’s African storytelling projects with international audiences, business opportunities, and potential collaborators.
Afriwood operates across filmmaking, comics, animation, digital storytelling, music, merchandise, and live experiences. Its ecosystem includes Afriwood Comics, Afriwood Motion Pictures, Afriwood Animation and Afriwood Store, alongside the Afriwood Film Academy and Afriwood Films Initiative, which support emerging creatives.

At the heart of its creative strategy is the Afriwood Universe, featuring original characters such as Shutter-Bird, Udo, Ije, and Zazuu. The characters are being developed across comics, animation, film, collectables, merchandise, music, and live experiences.
“Our vision extends beyond developing characters. We are building a connected African entertainment ecosystem that supports storytelling, creative talent, training, and opportunities for audiences both in Africa and internationally,” said Urenna Amadi, founder and Creative Director of Afriwood Studios.
Amadi, a U.S.-based Nigerian filmmaker and sculptor, received an Award of Recognition in the Women Filmmakers category at the Accolade Global Film Competition in 2019 for her feature film, ‘Not a Slave’.
According to the company, while the Newark office provides its international point of contact, Owerri remains the home of its creative foundation and headquarters.
