The African Council for Communication Education (ACCE) Nigeria has emphasized the need for Africa to revive its indigenous knowledge system to drive development and growth saying Africa’s future rests on it.

This call was made at the ACCE’s 2025 National Conference, themed “Communication and Indigenous Knowledge System in the Era of AI, Big Data and Cultural Transformation.”

ACCE President, Prof. Abdullahi Bashir, noted that Africa’s indigenous knowledge system, inherited from forefathers, is often disregarded despite its richness.

He advocated for a balanced approach to communication scholarship and practice, incorporating African cultures.

Govover Bassey Otu of Cross River State, represented by Commissioner for Education, Sen. Stephen Odey, highlighted the importance of effective communication in governance.

He said governance thrives with effective communication and that he is happy that the conference theme is apt and also in line with its policies in the education sector.

Prof. Odey also stressed the priority the government gives to artificial intelligence and data, as it is crucial for proper planning.

Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Obi, represented by Prof. Tony Eyang emphasized the need for Africa to leverage technology to express its culture and heritage.
