African regional confab on green, sustainable chemistry starts today

The five-day conference of the first African Regional Conference on Green and Sustainable Chemistry organised by the American Chemical Society (ACS), starts today (Monday, May 6, 2024) at Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.

According to Prof. Tolulope Fasina, Chairperson, LOC, the Vice-Chancellor of University of Lagos, Prof. Folashade Ogunsola (FAS), will give the opening remarks at the conference with the theme, “Green Chemistry Innovations for Sustainable Development”.

The Keynote lectures will be delivered by Prof. Tom Welton (Imperial College, London, England) and Prof. Jane Wissinger of the University of Minnesota.

The Special Guest of Honour will be Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire (SSA to the President on SDGs).
The conference is jointly organised by ACS chapters in Nigeria, Ghana and Egypt.

Other events would hold at UNILAG, Akoka, Yaba, on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 and Wednesday, May 8, 2024 These will include student activities and industry event.

The aim of the conference is to shift the attention of researchers to practising chemistry with environmental sustainability, while attention would be devoted to how green chemistry can assist in actualising the sustainable development goals.
