AFCON Qualifiers: Match fixtures and updates, which African teams face who?

As we approach the AFCON 2023 showdown, African countries will return to action soon for the concluding matches of the qualifiers, all with a view to booking a place in the group stages. Six countries including Morocco, Algeria, South Africa, Senegal, Tunisia and Burkina Faso have booked their place in the tournament already. Group A

Nigeria and Guinea Bissau are first and second of the group. Sierra Leone and Sao Tome and Principe are third and fourth respectively.

Group B

Burkina Faso have secured a place at Ivory Coast. The position for the second place is open to Cape Verde and Eswatini, with Togo sitting bottom of the table.

Group C

It is a group of three countries including Burundi, Cameroon, and Namibia. Burundi will be looking to go ahead of Cameroon if they defeat Namibia with a huge score margin. Namibia is top of the group, followed by Cameroon and Burundi at the bottom of the table.

Group D

Egypt and Guinea occupies first and second place. The third and fourth position is occupied by Malawi and Ethiopia.

Group F

Algeria have secured a place in Ivory Coast but the second position is still to fight for amongst the other three countries. Tanzania, Niger, Uganda are second, third and Niger sits bottom of the pile.

Group G

All four teams are strong contenders of making it to Ivory Coast. They may have to wait till the last round of fixture before the second position is decided.

Group H

It is a contest for first position between Ivory Coast and Zambia. Comoros in third place have a chance of stealing the second slot. Lesotho are bottom of the table.

Group I

All four of Gabon, Sudan, Mauritania and DR Congo have a chance of securing a place in Cote d’Ivoire.

Group J

Tunisia have secured their place in Ivory Coast. The second position is open to Equatorial Guinea and Libya. Botswana sits bottom of the table.

Group K

The group is settled with Morocco and South Africa already securing their place in Cote d’Ivoire.

Senegal has qualified for the AFCON Championship in Group L. Mozambique, Rwanda and Benin are fighting for the second spot. The next round of fixtures will be played starting from 12th of June.

 Conclusion

The AFCON Qualifiers is at its most intense phase. It is predicted that the tournament which will start on Saturday, January 13, into February 11 2024, will be the most televised AFCON Championship in history.
