Rear Admiral Austin Oyagha (Rtd) has emerged Chairman of Apapa GRA Residents Association (AGRA) at an election held at St Andrews Anglican Church, with a promise to work towards the restoration of the Apapa lost glory.
Speaking shortly after the election, Oyagha sought the support of the Apapa Local Government, corporate organisations, and all residents of Apapa towards achieving a safer and environmentally sustainable area.
While acknowledging that the Apapa community has some peculiarities being a port area, the new chairman expressed optimism that a lot can be achieved with deliberate and sustained interactions, exchange of ideas, and more inclusive participation of all stakeholders in the Apapa GRA.
Oyagha thanked members of the association for the confidence reposed in him and his new team through their unanimous votes and looked forward to supporting the gains made by the state and local government in Apapa
Oyagha who promised to restore the lost glory of Apapa, solicited for the cooperation of all members and expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in them. He also promised to work with all stakeholders
Also speaking at the event Chairman of Apapa Local Government, Mrs Idowu Adejumoke Senbanjo congratulated the newly elected officers of AGRA and reiterated her commitment to carrying everyone along in every area of the council’s activities.
The council boss also disclosed efforts made in the past to fix the Warehouse Road junction linking Creek Road, by Sifax. According to her, the engineers who worked on the project initially had blocked free-flow drainage water but forgot to report the blockage when handing it over to another engineer.
General Manager of AGRA, Siman Joshua listed the needs of the association to make it function efficiently. According to him, there is a need for another three security patrol vans, new boats with functioning outboard engines, employment of additional four drivers, and the engagement of four more police officers as security backup.
