The newly inaugurated Managing Director of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), Engr. Jennifer Adighije, has lauded her predecessor, Mr. Chiedu Ugbo, describing him as a man that possesses extraordinary leadership skills that have left an indelible mark on the company.

She stated this at the handover ceremony, which took place on Monday at the NDPHC headquarters in Abuja, Adighije highlighted the significance of Ugbo’s leadership during his tenure, characterising it as a beacon of innovation, integrity, and steadfast dedication.

“Today marks the beginning of a new chapter for NDPHC, but it is also a day to celebrate the remarkable journey led by Mr. Chiedu Ugbo. His leadership has not only been exceptional but has also been transformative, laying a solid foundation for the future,” she remarked.

She said Ugbo, since the announcement of her appointment, had gone above and beyond in ensuring a seamless transition.

“From the very moment my appointment was made public, Mr. Ugbo took it upon himself to mentor me, guiding me meticulously through every aspect of the company’s operations. He did not just hand over a document; he imparted wisdom, shared experiences, and provided invaluable insights into the company’s inner workings,” she said.

“This is a testament to his uncommon leadership abilities—a leader who is not just eager to move on but committed to ensuring that his successor is well-equipped to carry forward the mantle.”

Underlining her vision for the company, Adighije promised to leverage the strong foundation laid by Ugbo to steer NDPHC toward new horizons.

“Our focus will be on achieving significant financial growth, optimising our processes for greater operational efficiency, and harnessing the potential of technology and our human resources.

“We are not merely continuing from where Mr. Ugbo left off; we are building on his legacy to create a future that reflects our collective aspirations.”

Ugbo, whose tenure has been marked by significant milestones and achievements, has been a pivotal figure in Nigeria’s power sector. Appointed as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Power and Privatization in 2015, Ugbo’s leadership journey at NDPHC began in June 2016 when he was appointed Acting Managing Director/CEO. His role was soon formalized, and he was named the substantive MD/CEO on August 25, 2016. After a successful first term, his tenure was renewed for a final four-year period starting August 25, 2020, concluding on August 23, 2024.

In his farewell speech, Ugbo expressed deep confidence in Adighije’s capabilities, urging the staff and management to rally behind her leadership. “Engr. Jennifer Adighije brings with her a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective, both of which are critical as NDPHC embarks on this new chapter. I am convinced that under her guidance, the company will continue to thrive and achieve new heights,” Ugbo stated.

He further encouraged the heads of departments and the entire management team to embrace the changes and work collaboratively with the new leadership. “Support Engr. Adighije and her executive team with the same commitment and enthusiasm that have defined our collective efforts thus far. This is not merely about continuity; it is about evolving together to face the challenges and seize the opportunities that lie ahead.”

Ugbo’s departure, while marking the end of a significant chapter in NDPHC’s history, also heralds the beginning of a promising new era under Adighije’s leadership.

With her at the helm, the company is poised to continue its trajectory of growth and innovation, building on the strong foundation laid by a leader whose impact will be felt for years to come.
