The All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy Governorship Candidate in Osun State, Benjamin Adereti, has criticised Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration, accusing it of failing to adequately address the state’s critical infrastructure and public service needs.
Adereti made the assessment while speaking on the governor’s performance ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, faulting the administration’s record in roads, education, healthcare and agriculture.
He questioned the quality and spread of roads constructed under Adeleke, arguing that road projects alone were insufficient to demonstrate effective governance.
“If that is his only performance, then that government is a failure,” Adereti said.
The APC deputy governorship candidate also alleged a shortage of teachers in the state, claiming that Osun had a deficit of more than 28,000 teachers.
“We have a deficit of over 28,000 teachers,” he alleged.
He questioned how the state could adequately develop its education sector without sufficient teachers, particularly in key subjects such as mathematics, physics and chemistry.
Adereti also challenged the Adeleke administration to account for its performance in the healthcare sector, asking how many doctors, nurses and other health workers had been recruited during its tenure.
“How many health care centres can you go in the state and find doctors and find nurses? How many doctors have been employed in the past three and a half years? How many nurses, how many health record workers?” he asked.
Describing Osun as being “on life support,” Adereti said an APC government would adopt an emergency approach to rebuilding the state’s workforce and public services if elected.

He said the proposed APC administration would implement short-, medium- and long-term development plans, with immediate attention given to recruiting competent personnel, particularly in education and healthcare.
“We are going to massively recruit competent workers to shore up the workforce, especially in the health sector and in the education sector,” he said.
Adereti also promised to recruit young people into the state civil service, arguing that the ageing workforce had created a significant gap that needed to be addressed.
On infrastructure, he said an APC government would embark on the construction and rehabilitation of internal roads across Osun.
“We are also going to embark on massive internal road construction, because we have a lot of roads that are in dire states,” he said.
He further pledged to revive modern agricultural centres and renovate healthcare facilities that had become unsuitable for use.
“In the health sector, we’re also going to start immediate work in renovating most of our health centres that are not habitable so that people can get access to good and quality healthcare,” Adereti said.
He urged Osun voters to assess the records and policy proposals of the competing parties before deciding who should govern the state.
