The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State for the 2027 general election, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola otherwise known as Yayi has released funds for the commencement of work on the restoration of electricity to more than 50 communities in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area and other parts of Ogun East.

The release of the funds, according to a statement yesterday by his media adviser, Kayode Odunaro, was in fulfilment of the Senator’s promise to restore electricity to the communities that had been thrown into darkness for over a decade.

Odunaro added that the APC governorship candidate had promised to deploy his personal resources to carry out the re-electrification project  running into several millions of Naira during one of his consultative visits to some of the affected communities two weeks ago.

The statement disclosed that funds were, however, transferred to the contractors at the weekend to commence work on the project in Onikintimbo, Gbegude, Olorunsogo, Malofe, Mile 3 and 4, Igede, Oni, Alo, Olojumeta, Ibiade, Agodo, Tigara, Igbafo, Ilushin, Camps and Agbure communities.

Others are Efire, Lomiro, Obu, Ayede, Abigi, Ayila, Itebu-Manuwa, Ita Ogun, Ita Otu, Makun Omi, Igbo Edu, Ode Omi and Awodikora communities.

The re-electrification project will also extend to Ijebu East LGA, where communities of J3 Junction, Mafowoku, Trianger, Fowoseje, Fotedo, Itapanpa, Denurin, Malara, Terelu, Toliwo, Uba, Ebute Imobi, Oki Igbode, Itasin, Araromi, Togunselu  and Orita J4 will benefit.

Speaking on the development yesterday, Senator Adeola said he was worried to learn that several communities that had enjoyed electricity were thrown into darkness over a decade ago as a result of vandalisation of critical infrastructure.

“I was disturbed to learn that a vast area of my state had been thrown into darkness for over a decade with all the negative implications for socio-economic development and standard of living. It is not everything that we leave for the government with limited resources at all levels to do. So, I made a pledge to re-electrify these communities,” he was quoted to have stated in the statement.

The senator urged the contractor handling the project to complete the work in the earliest possible time frame stressing that it would be a thing of great joy for him to receive a report of light up in Ogun Waterside and its environs.

“The senator’s gesture has not gone unnoticed or unappreciated as a group, Ogun Waterside Patriotic Forum, has written a letter of appreciation for the incipient restoration of electricity to the LG.

“In the letter dated June 20 and jointly signed by Oba Olusegun Ogunye, Ojutumoro of Abigi and Chairman, Ogun Waterside Council of Obas; Abiodun Abudu Balogun, former House of Representative member and former Ogun State commissioner for Environment; Professor Segun Awonusi, former Ogun State Commissioner for Education and former Vice Chancellor of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijebu Ode; Adetoye Odunoiki, Chairman of Ogun Waterside Local Government and Afolabi Ganiyu, the Forum expressed  gratitude to Adeola for facilitating the restoration of electricity to the affected communities after more than a decade of total darkness.

“The Forum, in the letter, added that upon completion and delivery of the project, students can read at night, artisans can return to work, cold rooms will be functioning again and the communities will bounce back to life. This is more than electricity; it is restoration of dignity and economic life,” the statement concluded.
