The Osun State Security Council convened to review and establish new security measures aimed at safeguarding lives and property from local and external threats.

A statement from Governor Ademola Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, announced that the meeting, presided over by Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi, included all service commanders and resulted in significant conclusions to enhance the state’s security against banditry and domestic crime.

The Deputy Governor relayed Governor Adeleke’s commendation to the service commanders and expressed hope that ongoing security initiatives will bolster the safety of Osun residents. The council encouraged the public to collaborate more closely with security agencies by sharing information and reporting suspicious activities.

Addressing political violence, Adeleke issued a stern warning against rising political violence in parts of the state. He directed the Commissioner of Police to take decisive action against political killings, particularly in Ijeshaland.

The governor lamented the recent violence in Ilesa, urging political leaders to adhere to the will of the people and to reject thuggery and violence.

“If our goal is truly to serve the people, we must prioritise free and fair elections,” Adeleke stated. He called on the Commissioner of Police to ensure the security of affected areas and prevent further violence.

On the establishment of mobile courts, the state government has agreed to set up mobile courts consisting of eight magistrates.

This initiative, a collaboration between the executive and judicial branches, aims to address overnight criminal activities, preliminary remand proceedings, and alleviate overcrowding in detention facilities.

The process commenced with a request from the Governor’s legal adviser, Nurudeen Kareem Esq., to the Chief Judge of Osun State for the establishment of mobile courts to tackle the crisis of congestion in detention facilities managed by law enforcement agencies.

Governor Adeleke highlighted that this intervention is necessary to prevent human rights violations, mitigate security risks related to overcrowded cells, and ensure adherence to basic criminal justice procedures.

He said it is also part of ongoing efforts to resolve the judicial workers’ strike, saying that the Chief Judge has responded positively, and mobile courts will be established in Osun State promptly.
