From Lateef Dada, Osogbo
As the August 15 governorship election in Osun State draws nearer, governorship candidates have been visiting victims of the recent rainstorm and making different educational promises.
Governor Ademola Adeleke visited rainstorm victims receiving treatment in hospitals in Osogbo. According to a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke promised to sponsor the son of Mrs. Jemilat Tijani to university.
The promise was made at Asubiaro General Hospital, Osogbo, where the governor said he would provide a university scholarship through Osun State University (UNIOSUN) for Farouk Tijani.
“Once admission is concluded, the Secretary to the State Government would take over the scholarship arrangement.”

Adeleke described the rainstorm as a regrettable natural disaster, noting that similar incidents have occurred in parts of North America, Europe, and other places.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, announced scholarships up to university level for the four children of the victim.
Oyebamiji also ordered the immediate opening of a Special Bank Account for the children, through which money and other support would be sent regularly to fund their education—from primary school up to university.
The children to be sponsored are: Tijani Faruk (currently JSS 2), Tijani Mariam (currently SS 2), Tijani Fatimah (currently SS 3), and Tijani Haliah (currently Primary 6).
