Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has signed the 2026 appropriation bill into law, pledging to ensure its full implementation while highlighting the achievements of his previous budgets over the past three years.

A statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, disclosed that the signing ceremony  was attended by Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi, House Speaker, Adewale Egbedun, Chief of Staff Hon. Kazeem Akinleye, Head of Service Elder Ayanleye Aina, and other cabinet members.

Governor Adeleke stated that the 2026 Appropriation Bill aims to consolidate and enhance governance and service delivery in alignment with his administration’s five-point agenda. He identified the occasion as a stepping stone into the final year of his first term, emphasizing the commitment to ongoing projects and the launch of new initiatives for the benefit of the populace.

“Our administration has laid a solid foundation for sustainable development in Osun over the last three budget years. We have completed many abandoned projects and initiated new ones, while addressing pension and salary debts amounting to billions of naira.”

He highlighted efforts to prioritize worker welfare, including the approval and implementation of promotion arrears and various allowances neglected by previous administrations.

The governor also discussed investments across multiple sectors, stating they have directed funds toward agricultural mechanization, healthcare improvements, school rehabilitation, the construction of a new five-star stadium in Osogbo, and over 250 kilometers of road development—including six dualized roads in five major towns and three flyover bridges to mitigate traffic congestion. He noted innovations in energy, science, and climate change as part of a comprehensive development strategy.

Adeleke emphasised the importance of value for money in project selection and execution, stating, “We ensure cost moderation and reform the procurement process in line with global best practices.” He mentioned an allocation of nearly four billion naira for the cooperative movement to strengthen the grassroots economy.

The governor celebrated the improved business environment, highlighting tax harmonization to reduce multiple taxation and a streamlined 45-day process for acquiring Certificates of Occupancy. He noted that investment inflow into Osun has significantly increased, attracting global business delegations.

Adeleke proudly announced that Osun State now ranks first in the South West for primary healthcare access for both 2024 and 2025. Performance in national examinations has surged from 33rd place in 2022 to 7th place for the same years, and he reported a reduction in Osun’s debt profile by over 40 percent with infrastructure deficits decreasing by 45 percent.

Reflecting on the successes of his administration, he stated, “We have received numerous local and international awards acknowledging our performance in office, confirming that our achievements are widely recognised.”

Looking ahead, Adeleke described 2026 as a dual year of renewal and new initiatives. He pledged that the new budget would focus on consolidating past achievements while ensuring responsive governance throughout the election season.

“We promise the people of Osun full implementation of the new appropriation act,” he asserted, urging ministries and agencies to adhere to established timelines for budget execution. He reiterated the commitment to prioritize citizens’ welfare and complete ongoing projects and programs.

Expressing gratitude to the people of Osun for their unwavering support, Adeleke said, “I won’t disappoint our people—the artisans, workers, labor movement, youth, students, women, royal fathers, and opinion leaders. I remain dedicated to serving the public good.”
