Samuel Oyedotun, an aspirant for the Accord Party in the Osun East Senatorial District, said on Wednesday that the continued popularity of Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke among residents remains a “mystery” to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Oyedotun, a United States-trained mortgage stockbroker and immediate past chairman of the Osun State Water Corporation Board, said in a chat with newsmen that despite the APC’s sustained criticisms of the Adeleke administration, the governor still enjoys strong grassroots support across the state.
He said: “Even within All Progressives Congress circles, many cannot explain why Adeleke’s acceptance has not waned.”
He argued that the governor keeps gaining popularity daily, which has made it difficult for the APC to counter him.
Oyedotun said the APC underestimated Adeleke in 2022, saying they believed he had nothing to offer Osun. But he claimed Adeleke has performed better than previous administrations, earning him loyalty across party lines.

He added that Adeleke’s style of governance resonates with residents and that the governor’s record has surpassed what APC members can point to from their time in office.
The aspirant also said the situation has left the APC unable to form a cohesive opposition strategy ahead of the August 15 election.
He attributed Adeleke’s continued performance to voters’ belief in his leadership despite alleged attempts to frustrate the administration, including victimisation and an alleged illegal takeover of council funds.
Oyedotun said APC leaders have resorted to propaganda because Adeleke’s “image” is what people relate to, making it hard to dislodge.
On his senatorial ambition, Oyedotun expressed confidence that he would secure the Accord Party ticket for Osun East, adding that if elected, he would follow Adeleke’s approach by prioritising the welfare of the people.
