Two major contestants in the August 15 governorship election in Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke and Bola Oyebamiji, stood together at the final Fidau prayer for the late Sidikat Basiru, mother of the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru.
Governor Adeleke of the Accord Party and Oyebamiji of the APC attended the event at Fakunle Unity Comprehensive High School, Osogbo, alongside their supporters, despite accusations and counter-accusations between the two political parties ahead of the governorship election.
While Adeleke attended the event with the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, among other aides, Oyebamiji was accompanied by APC leaders, including the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola; Chief Bisi Akande; and Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, among others.
Also at the event were the Governor of Ekiti State, Abiodun Oyebanji; the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu; the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede; the immediate past Chairman of the JAMB Governing Board, Prof. Olu Aina; and the APC governorship candidate in Oyo State, Sharafadeen Alli.
In his sermon, the Mufasir of Osogbo, Sheikh Abdulateef Abajaoro, said every human being will die and advised people to engage in good deeds.
He noted that every position, wealth, influence, and authority would come to an end after death and that only three things would remain beneficial to the deceased in the grave.
According to him, only the knowledge imparted while alive, alms given from which people are still benefiting, and a good child who prays for the deceased will remain beneficial to the dead.
