Youths of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Thursday staged a protest at the Katsina office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), demanding swift action over the party’s leadership crisis.

The demonstrators, who marched along Daura Road under the slogan “Amupitan Must Go,” issued a 74-hour ultimatum, warning that failure to address their demands could lead to wider lawful protests across the country.

Led by Jamilu Yahaya, the group submitted a petition at the commission’s office, insisting that INEC must restore the David Mark-led leadership on its official portal.

They also called on the commission to publicly apologise to Nigerians over what they described as actions capable of undermining confidence in the electoral process.

The protesters maintained that INEC must remain neutral and avoid recognising internal party decisions without clear court backing.

According to them, “INEC must not act on letters, pending motions or non-binding processes without judicial pronouncement.”

They warned that the leadership dispute, if not properly handled, could affect preparations for the party’s national convention and deepen divisions within the party.

Receiving the protest letter on behalf of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ibrahim Dari assured the group that their concerns would be transmitted to the appropriate authorities.

The protest reflects growing unease within the party as factions continue to push for control ahead of key political activities.
