In an exciting turn of events that could change the political scene in Lagos State, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Lagos coalition has gained some important new members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). On July 9, 2025, Hon. Rahman Owokoniran, who led the PDP coalition, and his team officially joined the ADC during a ceremony at the party’s office in Ikeja, Lagos.
The event drew several key figures from the ADC, led by George Ashiru, the party’s State Chairman; Dr. Mohammad Ogidi, the State Organising Secretary; and Mrs. Disu Yetunde, the Vice Chairman for Lagos East. Notable attendees also included Mabel Oboh, who was previously the party’s National Publicity Secretary and ran for governor in Edo in 2020.
During the ceremony, ADC Lagos State Chairman George Ashiru warmly welcomed Owokoniran and his group, highlighting their move to the ADC as a significant step forward for the party in Lagos State. He expressed his appreciation for Ralph Okey Nwosu, the former National Chairman, for leading the ADC to where it stands today, while honouring the great accomplishments of the new interim leaders, Hon David Mark, and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.
“We are not just here to celebrate Hon. Owokoniran’s decision to join us; we are making history,” Ashiru said. “With this new coalition, we are ready to elevate Lagos State, and we believe our combined strengths will truly benefit the people of Lagos.”
Owokoniran, known for his rich political experience and leadership skills, is expected to be a valuable addition to the ADC. His insights will likely help shape the party’s direction and messaging in the state.
Among the others who joined ADC during the ceremony was Olaosebikan Olaniyi Okikiola, who previously served as a personal assistant to Rauf Aregbesola, and received a welcome handshake into ADC Lagos.
The ADC Lagos coalition is generating a buzz as it emerges as a fresh player in the state’s politics. With its new members from other parties, the ADC is gearing up to challenge the established political groups and could lead to a new chapter of progress and growth for the people of Lagos.
Looking ahead, it’s clear that the ADC Lagos coalition is ready to make a significant impact on the political landscape of Lagos State. With its united strength and valuable experience, the party is hopeful about making real changes that can improve the lives of Lagosians and meet the state’s pressing needs.
