From Tony John, Port Harcourt
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and opposition coalition lack the prospects to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
The former governor of Rivers State declared that ADC lacks the grassroots structure required to challenge the ruling party, stressing that Nigeria’s electoral success is driven largely by local political structures, not narratives in the media.
Wike stated this during his end-of-the-year media chat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Monday, expressing optimism in the victory of the ruling party in 2027 polls.
He believes that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is the only opposition party that can give the All Progressives Congress (APC) a fight in the election.
Wike also urged opposition parties to resolve internal issues and demonstrate tangible achievements if they hope to be competitive in future elections.
He stressed the need for PDP to resolve its internal crises, stating that leadership is key to success.

The FCT minister downplayed allegations that he pledged to “hold down” the PDP for President Bola Tinubu, calling it a “blatant lie”.
Wike emphasized that politics is local and structure-driven, and electoral success depends on tangible outcomes, not just media narratives.
Speaking further, Wike expressed confidence that President Tinubu will have landslide victory in the FCT in 2027 elections, citing performance and development in Abuja as key factors.
He also cautioned politicians that backing Tinubu isn’t an automatic ticket to re-election.
