Accord Party asks court to throw out suit seeking disqualification of its candidates

Accord Party

From Godwin Tsa, Abuja

The Accord Party has asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss a suit seeking to disqualify all its candidates for the 2027 elections. The suit was filed by its National Secretary, Adebukola Ajaja.

In a preliminary objection, the party argued the suit is statute barred as it was filed outside the 14 day limit. It also challenged jurisdiction, saying candidate nomination is an internal party affair.

The party said Ajaja lacks locus standi because she was not an aspirant. It further argued non joinder of the candidates and failure to give the required 21 day pre action notice.

Accord stated its primaries followed all laws and guidelines. INEC has recognised the outcome and received the candidate list.

National Chairman Maxwell Mgbudem rejected claims that Ajaja’s duties were usurped. He said she abandoned her responsibilities and stopped attending National Working Committee meetings.
