Accord faction predicts defeat for Adeleke in Osun election

The factional National Chairman of the Accord Party, Prof. Chris Imumolen, has expressed confidence that Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke will lose his re-election bid, either at the ballot box on Saturday or through an ongoing legal battle in court.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by Israel Jagunmolu, an Accord Party chieftain in Lagos, Imumolen advised the people of Osun State not to vote for Governor Adeleke, insisting that the governor’s political future is heading towards defeat due to both public rejection and a pending leadership dispute within the party.

Asserting that Adeleke lacks what it takes to secure a genuine victory at the polls, Imumolen said his confidence extends far beyond the ballot box.

He maintained that even if the governor manages to secure a surprise victory, the Accord Party leadership suit currently before the Federal High Court in Abuja would provide the legal avenue to unseat him.

The pending case, involving the faction aligned with Adeleke, is reportedly progressing well, with Imumolen expressing optimism that the court will soon deliver a favourable judgment.

“We are expecting victory in the judgment very soon. Recent legal developments surrounding the dispute have further galvanised the Imumolen-led faction. Following proceedings at the Court of Appeal involving competing factions, the matter is now back before the Federal High Court in Abuja,” Prof. Imumolen stated.

For Imumolen and his supporters, the dispute transcends a mere internal party disagreement; it centres on the legitimate leadership, structure, and legal authority required to exercise the party’s political mandate. Because of this, Imumolen maintains that Adeleke cannot bypass the consequences of the leadership battle simply by winning an election.

“Adeleke will lose at the polls. And if, against all expectations, he wins, the Accord leadership case will ultimately defeat him in court,” he reiterated.

As the political contest in Osun State intensifies, Imumolen and his camp urged voters to look beyond political propaganda and consider the broader legal issues at play.

Ultimately, they believe the judicial process will vindicate their position and establish the party’s recognised leadership structure, carrying significant political consequences for the governor.
