ACAMB marks 30 years, pushes for stronger trust, innovation

The Association of Corporate Communication and Marketing Professionals in Banks (ACAMB) is set to mark its 30th anniversary with a renewed focus on professionalism, innovation and public trust in Nigeria’s banking industry.

The association, which was established in 1996, unveiled its anniversary programme in Lagos, with its President, Babajide Sipe, describing the milestone as an opportunity to reflect on its achievements and prepare for the future.

The anniversary is themed “30 Years of Shaping Narratives and Building Trust.”

Sipe said the association was founded by professionals who recognised the need to protect the reputation of the banking industry while promoting high standards in communication and stakeholder engagement.

“Thirty years ago, a handful of professionals chose to put the reputation of the banking industry above rivalry. We are standing today on the foundation they laid, and every tree we plant here is a promise to keep building and deepen credibility,” he said.

According to him, corporate communication has evolved beyond simply passing information to stakeholders, stressing that it now involves building understanding, managing perceptions responsibly and strengthening confidence in institutions.

He listed ACAMB’s contributions over the past three decades to include promoting professional standards and best practices, organising capacity-building programmes and conferences, facilitating knowledge sharing, and creating networking and mentorship opportunities for practitioners.

The association, he added, had also played a role in advocating and promoting the banking industry, while contributing to thought leadership and initiatives around health, wellness, environmental sustainability and community development.

The anniversary activities, according to the First Vice President, Chinwe Bode-Akinwande, will include a tree-planting exercise, Golf and Networking Experience, and a grand finale Gala and Awards Night on September 30, 2026.

She said the tree-planting exercise was designed to demonstrate ACAMB’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

The Gala and Awards Night will bring together communication professionals, banking and business leaders, government representatives, regulators and the media.

Bode-Akinwande said the event would also recognise individuals and stakeholders who have contributed to the growth of ACAMB and the communication profession.

The General Secretary, Olugbenga Owootomo, said the association had spent three decades strengthening professional standards, creating learning platforms and building strategic partnerships.

He said the next phase would focus on innovation and equipping members to respond to rapid changes in the communication industry.

“We have advanced standards, built platforms for learning and built strategic partnerships. Going forward, we will embrace innovation and ensure our members are equipped for the future of communication,” Owootomo said.

The Second Vice President, Morolake Philip-Ladipo, said ACAMB’s growth demonstrated the importance of collaboration among professionals.

She said the association had evolved from a modest beginning into a community focused on knowledge sharing, mutual support and collective representation of the banking industry.

The Treasurer, Unoaku Temitope Anyadike, said the anniversary programme reflected ACAMB’s broader commitment to the wellbeing of its members and society.

She said activities such as tree planting, wellness and fitness initiatives showed that the association’s priorities extended beyond professional development to environmental sustainability and community development.

The Publicity Secretary, Abiodun Coker, said trust remained central to corporate communication.

“Trust is the most valuable asset any organisation can possess. In 30 years, ACAMB has shown that effective communication is about creating understanding and strengthening relationships between banks and the populace,” he said.

Looking ahead, Sipe said ACAMB would continue to adapt to emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, digital media and changing expectations from stakeholders.

He said the association would, however, maintain its focus on professionalism, integrity and credibility.

“The 30th Anniversary is not simply a celebration of longevity; it is a celebration of impact, resilience, relationships and trust,” Sipe said.

ACAMB has been led by 10 presidents since its establishment, beginning with its pioneer President, the late Alhaji Kabir Dangogo.

Other former presidents include Dr Waheed Olagunju, Hajiya Lantana Ahmed, the association’s first female president, Lanre Alabi, Dr Eddy Ademosu, Pastor Tunde Sofowora, Lola Odedina, Charles Aigbe and Rasheed Bolarinwa.

Sipe is the current president of the association.
