Officials from the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) have taken action against 4U supermarket, a popular establishment in Abuja. The FCCPC conducted an unscheduled visit to the supermarket located in Wuse 2, Abuja, and uncovered several concerning practices during their inspection.
During the search, officials discovered bags of expired rice infested with weevils, along with other questionable practices within the supermarket.
Adamu Ahmed Abdullahi, the Acting Executive Vice Chairman of the FCCPC, led the raid and expressed astonishment at the presence of Caprice and Stallion rice, considering that the respective companies had ceased production years ago.
The FCCPC chairman emphasised that the supermarket’s stock could no longer be trusted, posing a potential risk to consumers who might unknowingly purchase unsafe products.
Furthermore, due to attempts by the supermarket’s management to conceal the affected rice at their headquarters, the FCCPC has initiated the process of sealing off branches of 4U supermarket as a consequence of their deceitful and misleading practices towards Nigerian consumers.
