Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Mahmuda Mamman at the weekend promised that the ongoing reconstruction work on Abuja – Kaduna – Kano Express Way would be completed early 2024.
There has been apprehension among Nigerians especially those that travel to and from the Federal Capital Territory due to the loss of lives and kidnapping problems as a result of the deplorable status of the road which has been approved by the Federal Government since 2017.
Fielding questions from the newsmen shortly after he inspected the road project, the senior civil servant hinged the delay in early completion of the project on the nefarious activities of criminal elements terrorising people along the highway.
Thankfully, he said, the situation has improved and the contractor is set to aggressively execute the project in such a way that it would be completed by early 2024.
“The essence of the visit is familiarisation and monitoring. We are outside the office to come and see practical challenges because if we don’t go out we cannot see the problem.
“It is in the same vein we also go and look at the Kaduna Western bypass and we have seen the situation of the road how it is.
“And by the time we go back to the office, we don’t need to tell you the strategy that we are going to adopt but we are going to do something different so that at the end of the day, we force the contractor to go back to site to deliver.
“As it is now, the work is very slow and that is why Nigerians are agitating and that’s actually what brought us from the office to come and see to devise a solution towards speedy completion and delivery of quality work we have seen so far”, he explained.
