Abia State Governorship candidate of the Action People’s Party (APP), General Ijioma Nwokoro Ijioma (retd), has promised to make the development of rural communities in the state his priority if elected governor in 2027.

General Ijioma made the promise in Aba, while addressing the people of Umuhu-Ezechi, in Bende Local Government Area, resident in the city. The APP governorship candidate said to achieve the plan, his administration will establish 17 large farms in all the local government areas. The farms, he said, will serve as a springboard that will not only be a source of revenue for the various communities, but also an avenue through which the people will be fed.

General Ijioma equally disclosed that his administration will be setting up three state farms in the three Senatorial zones of the state. The APP governorship candidate said his administration will, at the same time, establish commodity outlets where prices of goods will be slashed to cushion the effect of the economic hardship on the citizens.

“These commodity outlets will be structured in a way they will be able to buy excess agricultural products from local farmers and, in turn, sell to the natives at reduced prices”.

He assured the people that rule of law, justice, and equity for humanity will remain the cardinal principle of his administration. He restated his promise of turning Abia into a modern state, beginning with the transformation of Aba, Umuahia, and Ohafia into 21st century cities.

To achieve this, he announced a phased programme to implement his plan, stressing that N200 billion would be set aside each for Aba, Umuahia, and Ohafia.

He promised that part of the money for Aba would be devoted to constructing a minimum of four fly over bridges, opening up Boating Services at Azumini to connect the open sea, which he noted was just about 12 nautical miles (15-18km) from the Azumini community.

“The rest of the money would go into infrastructure/facilities, including underground drainage to address the perennial problem of flooding in Aba, including the redesign and remodelling of the Epic Ariaria market”.

Drawing analogy from the Biblical David and Goliath, the APP governorship candidate expressed optimism he will win the election, assuring he has repositioned his party for that purpose.

Reeling out his exploits when he was in service, including laying the foundation for the establishment of the Peacekeeping training centre at Jaji and building of the underground training centre at Darfur, Sudan, General Ijioma promised to deploy his military experience in turning Abia around for the better.

He maintained that he would do everything humanly possible to ensure the release of Nnamdi Kanu from prison, if elected governor of Abia State.
