As a former Deputy Governor and Governor of Kano State as well as former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje ranks among the most accomplished politicians and statesmen of Northern Nigeria extraction.
With an academic pursuit which began at a Quranic and Islamiyya school before he proceeded to DawakinTofa Primary School and Government College, Birnin Kudu, he laid a firm foundation for a lifetime devoted to learning and public service.
His academic pursuits proved exceptionally thorough as he went on to study at the Advanced Teachers College in Kano, before proceeding to Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, where he read Science Education. Thereafter, he attended Bayero University, Kano and obtained further qualifications in Applied Educational Psychology and Public Administration. This rich academic foundation paved the way for his illustrious career in governance.

In 1993, he crowned his distinguished academic achievements with a doctorate in Public Administration from the University of Ibadan. This giant stride underscores his reputation as an intellectually rigorous administrator whose policies have consistently been grounded in careful analysis.
His political journey has been marked by remarkable consistency and rising responsibility. He served with distinction as Deputy Governor of Kano State at two different times, acquiring an intimate understanding of governance long before assuming the state’s highest office as governor.
In 2014, his capability earned him selection as the All Progressives Congress consensus candidate for the governorship seat, a contest he won decisively the following year. As Governor of Kano State from 2015 to 2023, he presided over significant infrastructure transformation, expanding roads, public institutions and urban development across the state, and earning re-election in 2019, a testament to sustained public confidence in his leadership.
Dr. Ganduje’s influence extended to the national stage when he was entrusted with the National Chairmanship of the All Progressives Congress from August 2023 to June 2025, steering the affairs of Nigeria’s ruling party with the same steady hands he brought to Kano, and helping to strengthen party organisation and cohesion nationwide.
He also serves as chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, where he has championed innovation, institutional governance and modernisation across the country’s airports. Under his stewardship, the board has overseen improvements at the Lagos, Abuja and Kano airports, including the upgraded Pilgrim Terminal Building at Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
Under his watch, the Board is also pressing for a second runway at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, while insisting on zero tolerance for corruption among agencies operating at the nation’s airports.
