The two United States of America based indigenes of Afikpo in Afikpo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, who were abducted on New Year Day, have been released by their abductors.

Mike Eziulo and his sister were released on Wednesday evening in an unknown location, after the family paid an undisclosed ransom running into millions of naira.

The victims have been taken to hospital for medical examination.

“The person abducted, Eziulo came from the US and not London. He was kidnapped with his two sisters, Chi and Linda. It’s Chi that died,” a source from Afikpo, who gave his name simply as Isute, told Daily Sun.

“At least, they’ve come back alive and we thank everybody for their prayers,” another source from the area said.

The hoodlums, who invaded Afikpo community on January 1, stormed the residence of the victims, at Ndibe Beach Road, and abducted two people while a lady was reportedly killed in the process. Another person was shot and is receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Abakaliki.

The kidnap gang, numbering five, were said to have trailed the victims who came in from US and London for the yuletide. The hoodlums had called a member of the family shortly after whisking away their victims to an unknown destination and demanded N50 million ransom.

It was not immediately clear the exact amount paid as ransom, but an unconfirmed source said “the kidnappers collected quite a reasonable sum of money before releasing their victims.”
