A former deputy of Nasarawa State, Prof Onje Gye-Wado, who was kidnapped from his home in Rinza Wamba Local Government Area (LGA) has regained his freedom.
The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N70 million which, after a passionate appeal by Gye-Wado’s family, was later reduced to about N4 million. The family paid the ransom and he was released near Angwan Chiyawa, close to the hills between Akwanga and Nasarawa Eggon.
Daily Sun gathered that Prof Gye-Wado was taken to the palace of the paramount ruler of Wamba, Oriye Rindre, Justice Lawal Musa Nagogo, upon his release. A former chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and former commissioner of information in the state, Mr Dogo Shamma, confirmed the release via a text he sent to the NUJ state council WhatsApp handle around 10:06pm.
“They collected the ransom near the Mada Hills Secondary School in Akwanga, with a N200 recharge card, then he was released near Angwan Chiyawa, close to the hills between Akwanga and Nasarawa Eggon,” a family source said.
