A/Ibom: Police dispel rumours of abduction of school children in Oron community

Akwa Ibom state Police Command has debunked rumours going virile in the social media that bandits have invaded Mary Hanneys secondary school in Oron local government area and abducted school children while scores were killed . 

The social media is awash with rumours that bandits raided Mary Hanneys Secondary  in Oron and abducted school children as many died during physical confrontation with the bandits.

This caused panic in Oron as parents rushed to the school to pick up their children or trace the bandits using security agencies in the riverine community to track the purported  marauders .

One of the parents Mrs Atim Asuquo told Daily Sun that she rushed to the school and met other parents in groups forcing their way  into the college to confirm that  children were safe .

It was gathered that the school authority was forced to shut the school for the weekend before the normal closing time of 2 pm .

” I didn’t want to take chances . I have to go home with daughter to avoid story that touches the heart ”

Reacting to the incident, the Police Public Relations in Akwa Ibom DSP Timfon John in a telephone interview described the rumour as fake news .

” There is nothing like abduction of school children in Akwa Ibom state.

” The Commissioner of Police  in the state Baba Azare has warned all rumour mongers to stop their mischiefs with immediate effect”.
