NEW kid on the block, Ashflame, is dreaming big, he wants a collabo with Tuface Idibia. In this chat, the Ondo State-born singer talks about his debut single, Se Ko Si, and his journey into the world of music. Excerpts:

How would you describe your sound? It is Afro pop but I am not restricted to that genre but I believe that it is my own selling point. When did you professionally start music? I started at the age of 23 though I had been doing music since I was 18.

What is the message in the latest single, Se Ko Si? Se Ko Si talks more about my lifestyle and where I was coming from including my challenges. The response has been great. I believe the timing is perfect.

Which artistes influenced your music style? I listened to more of Jazz while I was growing up. I also listened to a lot of Tuface. 2 Baba is a living legend and I adore him.

How do you get inspiration for your music? Ba­sically from my background, my environment and the streets.

Can anything make you to give up on mu­sic? Nothing because over the years I faced a lot of terrible challenges but I stuck to my guns deter­mined to achieve my dreams. Who is your celebrity crush? Cynthia Morgan.

What would you do if you were behind closed doors with Cynthia? I don’t know but it would be a lot of ash and flames; fire will burn (laughter).

Where do you see yourself in five years? I see myself being a source of inspiration for other ar­tistes and the youths. I see myself giving back to the society. If you can grow a business for five years, you can expect that brand to have a stand and at the same time give back to the society.

Tell us an artist you would love to collaborate with? Tuface has a way of touching lives with his music. He is a prophet and I already have a song for him. Working with a person like that will positively affect my music.
