The All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives candidate for Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency, Dr Toyin Taiwo, has expressed confidence in the party’s victory in Ogun State in the 2027 general elections.
He said the achievements of President Bola Tinubu, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and the party’s governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, have laid a solid foundation for success.
Taiwo, who is the immediate past Chief of Staff to Governor Abiodun, stated that the APC had built sufficient political capital across the state to secure victory, predicting that Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, would defeat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Oladipupo Adebutu, across the state’s 20 local government areas.
He spoke on a current affairs radio programme in Abeokuta while assessing the political situation in the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
Taiwo attributed his optimism to what he described as the combined impact of the Tinubu administration at the federal level, Abiodun’s stewardship in Ogun and Adeola’s political standing in the state.
He said Adeola emerged as the APC’s consensus governorship candidate after extensive consultations among party stakeholders, including former governors. He stressed that the process reflected the supremacy of the party’s established structures.
“A loyal party member is expected to respect party supremacy and abide by decisions taken through appropriate structures,” he said.
Taiwo also spoke briefly on the decision of APC chieftain, Abayomi Semako Hunye, to obtain the party’s governorship nomination form despite his suspension.
He described the move as part of Hunye’s political strategy, recalling that the party chieftain had adopted a similar approach during Abiodun’s first term and was subsequently appointed a commissioner.
Taiwo maintained that Hunye remained suspended within the party and said decisions reached through the APC’s structures could not be overturned unilaterally.
