Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has urged Nigerians to critically examine campaign promises made by politicians rather than accepting them at face value.
Sani made the call in a post on his Facebook page on Sunday, where he listed 15 promises he said Nigerians should be wary of believing from what he described as “bourgeoisie politicians.”
The 2027 All Progressives Congress (APC) Kaduna Central senatorial candidate warning come amid heightened political activity and positioning ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
Among the promises he listed were commitments never to defect from a political party, serve only one term, restructure Nigeria, favour ethnic or religious groups, borrow money or deal with the International Monetary Fund and World Bank.
He also cited promises to resist Western interests, restore fuel subsidy, avoid tax increases and make the naira equal to the dollar.
Other promises on his list included allowing the National Assembly to elect its leaders without interference, selling the presidential fleet and travelling on commercial flights, protecting freedom of speech, refusing to privatise public assets and providing free education at all levels.
Sani urged citizens to engage their “reasoning” before believing such promises, suggesting that political declarations should be tested against the track records and actions of those making them.
