Bayer sporting director Simon Rolfes (44) in an interview with German tabloid BILD, says Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface is showing “his quality, his cleverness.
Boniface looked much fitter in Offenbach. He seemed lighter and more agile. He’s making progress every day.
“My feeling is that he’s getting better,”Rolfes confirmed.
“Boni is able to use his body effectively.”

What Rolfes likes about Boniface in games against smaller teams, where some Bayer players like Aleix Garcia (29) struggle with their attitude, is that “he’s determined to give it his all and get everything he’s got.”
He began an intensive fitness program under the supervision of Bayer experts long before training started. Now he’s fighting his way back. And if it’s not enough for the Werkself (Bayer Leverkusen’s first team), then at least enough for a fresh start at another club.
Boniface is expected to take the next step in his recovery today in the home friendly against Belgian first-division side Genk. He already showed good form in the recent 3-1 win against fourth-division Kickers Offenbach – especially considering his condition in May, following knee surgery in January.
