Among those leading this charge is Justine Chilenovu Ogborigbo, an accomplished cybersecurity researcher and electrical engineer whose cutting-edge innovations are fortifying America’s critical infrastructure.

Currently serving as a Research Assistant at Eastern Illinois University (EIU), which he has earned and merited the award for two consecutive academic sessions, (2023/2024 and 2024/2025 academic sessions), Ogborigbo is at the forefront of developing advanced cybersecurity solutions tailored to protect the U.S. electricity grid—a backbone of the nation’s economy.

Working in the School of Technology, alongside Faculties, like Professor Joseph Tillman, Ogborigbo focuses on integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced analytics to detect, prevent, and mitigate cyber-physical attacks on energy networks.

His research is pivotal in ensuring the security, stability, and resilience of systems that power homes, businesses, and essential services across the country.

“Our energy infrastructure is the lifeblood of the nation,” Ogborigbo noted. “By combining AI, cybersecurity strategies, and engineering principles, we are designing intelligent systems that can preemptively identify and neutralize threats, ensuring that Americans have continuous access to reliable and secure power.”

Beyond his academic research, Ogborigbo is working towards applying his expertise in the field of Energy sector and National grid.

There, he intends to lead the deployment and maintenance of state-of-the-art energy systems (ESS). These systems are vital for integrating renewable energy into the grid, supporting clean energy goals, reducing carbon emissions, and ensuring grid reliability during peak demand and emergencies.
