Less than five years as a university, the Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), Oto/Ijainkin has scored 100 percent in the just concluded accreditation exercise of its courses.
The university presented 64 courses during the National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation exercise and was 100 percent successful.
The LASUED Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bidemi Lafiaji-Okuneye, the management team, staff and students are celebrating the success recorded by the university.
NUC in a letter signed by the acting Director of Education, Abraham Chundun and address to the VC, Prof. Lafiaji-Okuneye, said LASUED secured full accreditation in 61 courses, representing 95.3 percent and three courses (4.7 percent) interim accreditation.
She said: “Today, we are gathered to celebrate a truly historic milestone: the 100 percent success of our university in the rigorous accreditation exercise conducted by the National Universities Commission in the last quarter of 2024. All 66 of our academic programmes presented for this exercise received full accreditation.
“This remarkable feat, achieved in less than five years of our transmutation from Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED) and Michael Otedola College of Primary Education (MOCPED) in 2022, is not just a victory for LASUED; it is also a national benchmark for educational quality, administrative commitment, and academic excellence in Nigeria’s tertiary education sector. “Significantly, it attests to the proactive and responsive style of the university leadership; steady dedication of our staff; diligence of our students; the meticulous guidance of the NUC, and the visionary support of the Lagos State Government under the leadership of Mr. Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.”
According to her, the success is not an isolated event but a culmination of strategic planning, hard work, and a deep-seated commitment to institution building, a journey that began long before LASUED’s formal establishment.
She noted that the institutional leadership journey was significantly shaped during her tenure as Provost of AOCOED, adding, “it was a period where, with grit and determination, our administration rose above the fray of trivialities, focusing on strategic decisions aimed at optimising resources and maximising impact.”
“We embarked on a sweeping transformation that laid a crucial foundation for what LASUED is today,” she stated.
The VC listed the key achievements to include Infrastructural Renewal; resource Optimisation; enhanced Communication; prioritised staff welfare and strategic partnerships.
The VC disclosed that the transmutation into LASUED presented new challenges and immense opportunities.
She said: “As the pioneer vice-chancellor, my vision has been clear: to establish LASUED as a globally competitive and highly sought-after institution of teacher education within its first five years.
“This 100% accreditation is not an end, but a powerful catalyst. It strengthens our resolve to continue on this path of excellence. We are committed to ensuring that LASUED produces not just graduates, but also well-rounded, highly skilled, and ethically sound educators who will shape the future of education in Lagos State, Nigeria, and beyond.”
Prof. Lafiaji-Okuneye assured that her administration will continue to invest in human capital, expand its infrastructure, deepen LASUED research capabilities, as well as strengthen its community engagements.
The VC revealed that her administration focus remains steadfast on becoming a global beacon in teacher education.
She commended the Visitor to LASUED, Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for his steady support and belief in the university vision.
She also showered appreciation on the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, LASUED Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, and members of the Governing Council for their guidance.
Lafiaji-Okuneye also disclosed that LASUED will produce its first sets of professors next year and that the university community is looking forward to the d-day.
“Next year July, we will roll out our first sets of professors. In 2022, three years ago, LASUED conducted a promotion exercise and we promoted some Chief Lecturer to Associate Professors. Hopefully, they will become full professors in 2026,” she disclosed.
