The Cross River State government has promised to tackle fake support groups across the state. Prince Clement Asanye, Special Assistant to the Governor on APC Support Groups Matters, shared this in Calabar.
He said the government knows these groups pretend to be supporters. Yet, their actions harm peace, stability, and unity in the state. “It is a matter of great concern that these groups, driven by motives that are less than altruistic, have been working assiduously to sow seeds of discord and strife among our people, thereby threatening the very foundations of our democratic ethos,” he stated.
Asanye made it clear that these groups lack official backing. “These groups do not enjoy the endorsement or the approval of the Office of the Special Assistant to the Governor on APC Support Groups Matters, the government, the ruling party, or the people,” he added. Their efforts, he warned, only create division and setbacks. This hurts the government’s work to improve life for all Cross Riverians.
The government issued a stern warning too. “Any activities deemed sabotage, anti-party, anti-government, or anti-people will attract consequences of the severest nature, in accordance with the laws of the land,” Asanye said.
He urged residents to stay alert. Also, he asked them to ignore these groups and their selfish goals. “Their objectives serve the interests of a select few at the expense of the majority,” he noted.
Finally, he called on genuine support groups to stay true to democracy. He encouraged them to keep pushing for the state’s progress.
