The Cross River State government has taken over the Obudu Mountain Resort in Obanliku Local Government Area following last week’s termination of the concession agreement with CIBA Construction Company Limited.
Sunday Michael, Special Adviser to the Governor on Obudu Ranch Resort, led the takeover team.
The team included Mr. Tom Ikpeme, Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism Development, Mrs. Eme Afia, Permanent Secretary , Ministry of Tourism, Art and Culture and other critical stakeholders.
The team’s primary objective is to ensure a seamless transition and commence the renovation and upgrade of the facility.
Preliminary evaluations by the team reveal that the resort suffered significant damages and vandalization, estimated at approximately 6.8 billion.
However, despite the setback Mr. Michael promised that “the government is committed to reviving the resort and positioning it as a premier tourist destination in Nigeria.
“A revitalisation team has been established to oversee the renovation and upgrade of the facility, in line with His Excellency’s directives.
“This move is expected to boost tourism, create jobs, and stimulate economic growth in the state.
“The Government of Cross River State is dedicated to restoring the Obudu Mountain Resort to its former splendor, showcasing its natural beauty and rich cultural heritage”, he said.
The Obudu Resort is one of the prime tourist destinations within Cross River State famous for its cool climate and breathtaking landscapes.
The resort gained global appeal during the administration of former governor Donald Duke.
His administration constructed road networks, modern chalets, installed aerial tramways (cable cars), constructed the Bebi Airstrip and enhanced overall infrastructure.
