The Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University (Uniosun), Prof Odunayo Adebooye, on Friday, disclosed that the institution was able to admit 11,000 out of 30,000 students that sought admission into the university this year.

He warned those that got admission to abide by the rules and regulations of the university, warning that necessary sanction awaits any defiant student.

In his address at the 18th matriculation ceremony held at Osogbo main campus, Adebooye advised the students to be hardworking insisting that 2024/2025 academic session will end as scheduled.

He said, “I am sure you chose to study here because the University is generally peaceful and academically stable. I must assure you that we will never compromise on these, and I promise you all that your four years will be four years; five years, five years! But you must also help us to achieve this. This you can, and must do, by pursuing your studies most lawfully, peacefully and without contributing in any way to any act that
can bring the name of the University into disrepute.

“It will interest you all to note that well over 30,000 candidates applied for admission into the University this year. Of this lot, we are only able to admit 11,000 (approximately one-third) into the various academic programmes across Colleges and Campuses. Though this means you are among the very lucky few admitted, it also shows you have all it takes to be undergraduates in any Nigerian university,” Adebooye said.

Noting that the the federal government has provided opportunity of student loan through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), to cushion the effect of economic hardship on students, Adebooye urged the new students to apply and access it for further make their life easy.

“Social vices such as examination malpractice, cultism, indecent dressing, drug abuse, sexual harassment, and truancy are strongly condemned.
