From Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, Abuja
Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reiterated his commitment to making funds available for completion of roads in the satellite towns to make residents happy.
He gave the commitment when he, again, went on tour overseeing infrastructure improvements in Abuja’s satellite towns, particularly in Bwari and Kwali Area councils. He highlights a commitment to enhancing road connectivity and living conditions for residents, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” which emphasises equitable development across the FCT.
Wike expressed satisfaction with the ongoing road projects, noting the substantial lengths of roads being constructed and their potential positive impact on local communities.
He specifically praised the contractors for their quality work despite challenges posed by heavy rains earlier in the year, stating: “When you see contractors who are committed, you will also carry out your own obligation.”
The minister’s recent activities include launching the construction of the 15.4-kilometre Pai-Gomain Road in Kwali on October 29, 2024. The project is part of broader efforts to address infrastructure deficits in previously neglected areas.
Wike emphasised the importance of the developments for agricultural transportation, stating that improved roads would facilitate better access to markets for farmers.
He also addressed concerns about the completion timelines for various projects. He reassured residents that despite some delays, he remains optimistic about meeting deadlines for commissioning over 75 kilometres of roads before December.
He highlighted that ongoing efforts reflect a government intent on reducing burdens and improving living standards across all councils.
According to him, the FCT administration’s initiatives are not limited to road construction; stating that plans are underway for additional projects, including new judges’ quarters and access roads to enhance judicial infrastructure.
Wike reassured residents that no area would be overlooked, stating, “every council must benefit.”
