Victor Boniface will have to thank VAR for escaping a sending off at Borussia Dortmund as his club Bayer Leverkusen again refused to be beaten this season.

The referee’s straight red card decision was overturned after consulting the VAR.

The Super Eagles striker was given a straight red card for his role in a scuffle with Leverkusen which was  a goal down at Dortmund.

The referee then consulted VAR and thankfully the red card was rescinded altogether.

The dismissal would have cost him at least two of the four matches to be played till the end of the season.

Leverkusen again fought back to draw level seven minutes into stoppage time to now go unbeaten in 45 games in all competitions.

The team will now hope to defend its unbeaten record Saturday at home against third-placed Stuttgart.
