Men of Operation Zenda, a Joint Task Force operation headed by the Police in Benue State, has rescued a 50-year old man from kidnappers.
The Commander of the operation, SP Felix Nomiyugh, who disclosed this while speaking to members of the Correspondents’ Chapel in Makurdi on Tuesday, said his men secured the release of the kidnapped 50 year old man last weekend.
He said the man was rescued in Tine Nune, Zaki-Biam, in Ukum Local Government Area, (LGA) of the state.
The Operation Zenda Commander said that his men rescued the man in a state of coma after his abductors abandoned him.
“Our men rescued him in a state of coma. He must have passed out possibly because of shock,” he said.
He said the victim was later taken to the General Hospital, Zaki-Biam where he was revived.
Nomiyugh said since he assumed office on November 1, 2023, he has recorded a lot of achievements especially in the arrest of suspects and release of abducted victims.
While he expressed his commitment to ensure that Benue is crime free, the commander said on assumption of office, he has tried to ensure that his men portray a good image of the police by embarking on a deliberate policy of discipline amongst officers.
“Discipline is key to everything especially in the force. It starts from neatness, politeness. Let us not be seen as people who cannot be approached. If we are not approachable, people cannot give us information.
“We are working hard to sensitize and re-orient the attitude of our officers. In doing that, we are going to be firm but in a polite manner so that we can boost the image of the unit.”
Nomiyugh also stated that he is working to ensure a better response time for security issues saying “response time should be short so that victims can be rescued from distress.”
He expressed readiness to collaborate with the media for credible intelligence, effective crime control and reduction in the state.
