Kebbi State Governor Dr Nasir Idris has approved the sum of N967,685,854 million as the school fees for the 20,908 students studying in 36 tertiary institutions across the country.
The fees,would covered 2022/2023 academic session of the affected students who are indigenes of the state.
Commissioner for Higher Education in the state Alhaji Isah Abubakar Tunga,who confirmed the approval, noted that,the students who had paid their fees shall be refunded accordingly.
He said:. “Yesterday,20th March,2024, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kebbi State, Dr Nasir Idris has approved the sponsorship of 20,908 number of Kebbi State students studying in 36 tertiary institutions across the Country.
“In view of the above,and in line with his Excellency ‘s vision and mission in transforming Higher Education in the state,and his administration efforts to ensure that the youths benefit from the agenda of the current political dispensation by sponsoring students within and outside the country for the education development of the state.
“His Excellency has therefore, graciously approved the sum of N967,685,854 being the fees for the 20,908 students for the year 2022/2023 academic session.”
He commended the state governor for given the approval stressed that the gesture would pave way for the youths in the state to prosper intellectually.
While speaking on the foreign students under the sponsorship of the state government,Tunga disclosed that 26 students who were studying in Egyptian university,only one of them progressed to 200 while other repeated their classes.
The Commissioner who attributed their failure to Arabic language as the national language,noted that two students have been withdrew by their fathers,three of them had no admissions while remaining 21 of them.
Tunga who expressed concern over the students being sponsors to foreign universities for the same courses and Programmes available in the Nigeria’s University, said,he would recommend to the governor that those repeated students should be repatriated to Nigeria to save the state unnecessary expenditures.
