Vice President Kashim Shettima, Minister of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, ex-Secretary to the Government of the Generation (SGF) Amb Babagana Kingibe have urged the people of Borno to use the annual Kanem-Borno Summit to revive the rich Kanuri culture.
Kashim spoke at the Kanem-Borno Summit Cultural Summit Colloquium in Maiduguri, Borno State weekend.
Represented by Gov Babagana Zulum, Shettima who was the special guest of honor at the event, said the Kanem-Borno ancient Kingdom which spread from present Borno and Yobe states, expanded to neighbouring Niger Republic, Chad and part
“Let us come together and reserve our rich cultural heritage. This event would provide necessary avenue to inculcate our culture to our young generations,” he stated.
He said the Kanem Borno civilisation has survived thousand years. He maintained the ancient Kingdom and its culture occupy a special space in the “encyclopaedia of the world civilisation.”
“History has shown that the ancient Borno empire traded with merchants in Europe, Asia and the Middle East,” he said.
Arts and Culture minister, Musawa announced government plan to establish a Museum for the preservation of Kanuri cultural heritage and arts.
Speakers at the colloquium including federal legislators from Niger, Cameroon and Chad Republic harped on reviving of the rich culture and its sustenance.
The colloquium tagged Toward Achieving Sustainable Development, was also attended by many sons and daughters of Kanuris extraction in and outside the country.
