The Nasarawa State Police Command has rescued a lecturer at Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Isaac Igbawua, who was kidnapped from his residence in Old Barracks, Kokona Local Government Area on Wednesday.

This was made known by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the command, Ramhan Nansel.

He said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Umar Nadada, had directed an immediate search when Igbawua was kidnapped, which led to the liberation of the victim.

The police have also arrested a suspect in connection with the abduction. The suspect’s name was given as Daniel Favour Chukwuebuka, who was said to be a 25-year old student of Federal University of Lafia.

The statement read in part: “This successful rescue operation demonstrates the commitment of the Nasarawa State Police Command to ensuring the safety of residents. We will not rest until criminals are brought to justice. The commendable efforts of our officers, in collaboration with vigilante groups, led to the safe rescue of the abducted lecturer. We encourage the public to continue sharing information that aids law enforcement in our quest to eradicate criminal activities.”

Nansel explained that a swift response by law enforcement and vigilante groups led to the sighting of the criminals in Ogba village, Nasarawa Eggon, a day after the lecturer was kidnapped. He added that despite resistance from the suspect and his gang members, the operatives courageously repelled the attackers, enabling the safe rescue of the lecturer.

The Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the command that also responded simultaneously apprehended the suspect, Daniel Favour Chukwuebuka. A locally fabricated Beretta pistol, four live ammunition, and criminal charms were reportedly recovered during a search of his residence.

Meanwhile, the rescued lecturer, after a medical examination at the Police Clinic in Lafia, has been reunited with his family.
