Gunmen have resumed their spate of killings in Imo State on Thursday, shooting to death the ward chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Ife Ife/ Akpodim/ chokoneze ward in Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area.

According to a source from the community, the victim whose name was given as Chiedoziem Anyanwu was shot dead by the hoodlums operating on a motorcycle.

The source further revealed that on getting to his house, the gunmen who called out his name requested to see him.

His wife not suspecting anything ,called him out that some people wanted to see him.

Immediately he was identified by his assailants, the source said, he was shot before his wife and stayed for some minutes to be sure he was dead before they flee from the scene.

The source said ” the chairman of PDP In Ife/ Akpodim/ chokoneze ward in the Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area has been killed. He was shot dead before his wife by gunmen who requested to see him.

When contacted, the Director General of the New Media of the PDP in the state, Lancelot Obiaku, confirmed the killing.

He however called for the arrest and prosecution of the fleeing suspects.

The spokesperson for the police in the state, Henry Okoye, said that he had not been briefed on the killing but promised to make an enquiry on the matter.

His death still remain a mystery in the community as several questions were still being asked why he was killed.
