From David Onwuchekwa, Nnewi

The Spiritual Director of Soul Revival Ministry, Nnewi, Anambra State, Prophet Iyke Uzukwu has called on Nigerians to insist on a unicameral National Assembly as against the bicameral system that has been useless and counterproductive, according to him.

Uzukwu in his quarterly prophetic briefing on the state of the nation said that the high cost of running the Senate and House of Representatives in the National Assembly had been unimaginable with the excruciating hardship the system had introduced to the Nigerian masses.

He declared that the political class had been feeding fat on the two-chamber system to the detriment of the unsuspecting electorate who always willingly gave the politicians their mandate only to have poor representation and abject neglect in return.

“I have been saying this since 2017 that the current National Assembly as constituted is a cancer to Nigerian economy. This country does not need more than one chamber at the National Assembly. It is highly expensive to run a bicameral system especially given the prevailing economic situation in the country. Without any apology, the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) programme is more profitable to Nigerians than the result we get from the National Assembly. The so-called Honorable members are basically there for personal aggrandisement.

“We have a National Assembly but look at how the masses suffer economic strangulations everyday and the so-called Honourable members cannot do anything to alleviate the sufferings of Nigerians.

“Recently, without minding that many Nigerians cannot afford two meals a day and many parents and guardians cannot pay for their children and wards in schools, the National Assembly members are celebrating their N150 million, thereabout, worth of Sport Utility Vehicle for each lawmaker against the advice of some well-meaning Nigerians. And to make matters worse, they don’t even think about patronising our home-made vehicles like the Innoson’s products which would have in turn boosted the nation’s economy. I appeal to Mr President to make Innoson’s vehicles adjudged to be among the best in Africa the official vehicle in Nigeria. We should be proud of Innoson.

“Their excuse is that it is because of bad roads. Are they not elected to fix those bad roads? Where are the millions of dollars borrowed in the past which they approved for the executive? Or do they borrow to share and borrow again? Some big construction companies in the past did our roads in exchange for oil; why not go back to that system? The country needs to go back to the era of Public Work Department popularly called PWD those days when the department created jobs in millions. I have been saying this.

“You ask Nigerians in diaspora to return home and invest when you don’t patronise made-in-Nigeria goods. That is an act of sabotage and deceit,” he said.

He pleaded with Nigerians to be patient with President Bola Tinubu in his administration, adding that Tinubu assumed office as President when Nigeria was in coma. He said the President was only making efforts to revive the nation that was in coma when he assumed office.

He appealed to the Federal Government to have a downward review of the prices of petroleum products for the interest of the masses who he said were already choked up. He said vats on commodities should also be reduced to the barest minimum.

Uzukwu said he saw dead bodies in the spiritual realm especially that of the youths littered everywhere and warned for caution.

He also disclosed a prophesy on the General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministry, Apostle Johnson Suleman who he said needed fervent prayers to avoid being set up outside the country.
