A group, Warri Urban Security Network (WUSN) and residents of Udu community and its environs have commended the men and officers of the 3Battalion, Effurun Barracks under the 63 Brigade Command of the Nigerian Army, for the timely intervention in Wednesday’s arson and destruction of bank branches by protesters in Delta.
They noted that the uprising could have been worse than what was experienced yesterday if the 63 Brigade had not ordered the immediate deployment of troops to the various locations where the protests had taken place to bring the situation under control.
Reviewing the incident in a statement made available to newsmen today, Warri Urban Security Network, (a security watch body) applauded the conduct of the soldiers deployed to the scene, stating that it was due to their professionalism that led to the situation being brought under control without recording casualties.
WUSN In a statement signed by Chief Frank Adagbabiri, Chairman and Barrister Chinedu Ejiofor, Secretary, said contrary to their earlier fear that once soldiers arrived at the scene there would be high casualty figures but were surprised that with the way and manner they engaged maturity in dispersing the rioters allayed their fears while restoring normalcy.
According to the statement; “The members of WUSN wish to acknowledge the maturity and high degree of professionalism displayed by the soldiers attached to the 3 Battalion under the 63 Brigade in bringing situations during the riot over naira scarcity that saw three commercial bank branches torched by irate youths in Udu Council area under control”.
“We particularly want to thank the new 63 Brigade Commander for inculcating high discipline and professionalism in his men, especially in handling a chaotic situation such as we had here yesterday and we are happy that, unlike other places, no life was lost while the unrest lasted in Udu area and its environs”. It stated.
Residents of Udu, Warri and Uvwie were also full of praise to the military high Command for the professional way they handled the situation during the protests in the state.
