6 dead, 3 injured in Ogun auto crash

At least six people were crushed to death while three others injured yesterday in a multiple crash on the Lagos – Abeokuta expressway  at the old Sango Toll Gate in Ogun State .

A trailer truck ,said to be driving on dangerous speed rammed into multiple motorbikes ,mini buses ,motorcycles and others .

The deceased person’s were mostly commercial motorcycle riders (Okada riders)traders around the Toll Gate area .

The Ogun State Traffic Compliance Agency  (TRACE ) confirmed the death as well as the injuries to the affected persons .

It was gathered that a truck with number plate: EKY 913 YH ,white cap and green body was descending Ilo Awela Road at a very high speed and rammed into the vehicles and motorcycles

According to TRACE: “ The crash occurred when the driver of a Mack tanker truck, traveling from Ota towards Lagos, drove with speed and  recklessly too before ramming into several vehicles, including a tricycle and pedestrians.

“A total of nine people ,including two female persons were involved in the early Tuesday accident .

“Five male persons and a female were crushed to death ,while three others were injured .

“ Traffic flow was initially affected but with the intervention of TRACE operatives and other sister agencies (FRSC, Police and  NSCDC) the situation was promptly managed and normal traffic low restored.

“ Also, all the vehicles involved in the unfortunate crash , including the tricycle, have been cleared from the road and moved to the police  cage, while the injured were rescued to the State Hospital, Ota, and the presume dead deposited at the State morgue, Ifo.

“Nevertheless, drivers are again implored to avoid excessive speed, particularly articulated vehicles, in view of its attendant consequences.”
