Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State celebrated his 5th anniversary in office, marking a significant milestone in his governance. As he looks forward to the next 3 years of his tenure, the governor has unveiled his plans for the state, outlining his vision for the future.
One of the key areas that his administration will focus on is consolidating its achievements in infrastructure by investing in the development of rural and urban transportation networks. This will ensure better connectivity and access to rural areas, according to the governor.
Governor Yahaya made this statement during a statewide address commemorating the 5th anniversary of his administration. He also highlighted the importance of boosting the state’s human capital development by investing in the education and health sectors.
“We shall train our youth, and equip them with the skills and expertise to succeed in the 21st-century economy,” he said. “We shall also continue to improve on our business-friendly reforms in order to foster a conducive business environment, attract investments, and stimulate economic growth.”
In the healthcare sector, the governor plans to build upon existing achievements by leveraging the Go-Health and GSPHCDA initiatives to strengthen healthcare systems and infrastructure. This will ensure accessible and quality healthcare services for all. He also emphasized the importance of training and capacity building for healthcare professionals and partnering with stakeholders to implement programs supporting the poor and vulnerable.
Governor Yahaya also highlighted the importance of water resources to his administration. “We are undertaking a comprehensive upgrade of the Gombe water supply system to better serve neighbouring communities through the Gombe Regional Water Supply Project,” he explained. “In addition to drilling hundreds of boreholes, we are committed to solving long-standing water supply issues in areas like Dukku through LGA water supply schemes. This underscores our dedication to addressing perennial water shortages in Gombe and other LGAs, recognizing that access to potable water is crucial for health, development, and meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”
The governor expressed his commitment to good governance and transparency, emphasizing the importance of people-driven, needs-based, and participatory governance. He highlighted the administration’s efforts to improve open government policies, which led to Gombe State being ranked among the top seven states in the 2022 Transparency and Integrity Index.
“We shall ensure efficient use of public resources and foster a culture of inclusivity and meritocracy in governance through the public service reforms we have embarked upon,” Governor Yahaya stated.
